The First Session at the Counseling Office
When you schedule with me, your initial visit will be 80 minutes in length. During the first session, initial paperwork will be discussed and completed. This paperwork will help give you an understanding of the counseling process and how I work so you can make an informed decision about continuing with counseling. Finding a good fit with your therapist is extremely important, because it is necessary for you to feel comfortable and trusting with the person you work with in order to make progress toward your goals. I encourage you to voice any concerns and ask any questions so you can make sure that you are comfortable and I am the best choice for you on your journey through counseling.
The first session is an evaluation, where we will discuss your current concerns, as well as your background and other information that may help in the counseling process. By the end of the session, we will have narrowed down our initial focus of counseling and the goals you would like to reach, and I will provide you with some information on whether counseling may be effective and, if so, what interventions may be most helpful. Together, we will begin to identify a treatment plan for your course of counseling. Of course, this plan may change as your needs change in the coming weeks and we will discuss that as we progress.
My office is located in the Parkwood Place office building on 97th Avenue in Clackamas, Oregon, south of Sunnybrook Blvd. with easy I-205 access.
When you arrive to the building, please proceed up the stairs. My office is on the second floor of the building and does not have elevator access. If you are unable to navigate stairs, but would like to schedule an appointment with me, please let me know and I will try to make accommodations.
At the top of the stairs, you will find a waiting area with a loveseat, as well as a table and chairs. Please take a seat, and I will come get you at your scheduled time.
My office is in suite 201, and is furnished with a loveseat, two individual seats, and a rolling seat. In this space, I am able to accommodate 4 clients plus myself. For larger groups of clients, alternate space can be arranged. Please notify me if this is a need for you or your family. During sessions, blinds are generally down and closed to help protect confidentiality. If opened for natural light, your permission will always be required and blinds will be opened minimally to still protect your privacy.
In addition to the pictures shown above, I do also have access to various fidget toys to help with anxiety, as well as toys and games to help facilitate the counseling process.
Please note: If you have a weekend appointment scheduled, the doors to the building are automatically locked and I will need to meet you at the doors to open them for you. Please arrive no earlier than 10 minutes prior to your session to avoid excessive waiting time in your vehicle or outside. Thank you!
